| The following are hosting questions frequently asked by clients. |
| |
 |
|
I am trying to read and send e-mail with Outlook Express but it does not work? |
|
| When sending and receiving e-mail make
sure to use the mail server: mail.server.com and the
username is in the format of username@server.com. Where
'server.com' is the actual domain for your web site and where
'username' is the actual username for that e-mail account.
Finally when sending e-mail you must make sure to select the
option 'My outgoing server requires authentication' within
Outlook/Outlook Express. |

I can read e-mail but cannot send e-mail with Outlook Express? |
|
You may receive an error similar
to:
The connection to the server has failed. Account
'mail.server.com', Server 'mail.server.com', Protocol SMTP,
Port 25, Secure(SSL) No, Socket Error 10060, Error Number
0x800CCC0E
The reason you are getting this error is
that some Internet Service Providers (ISP's), including
AT&T WorldNet, MindSpring, MSN, Prodigy Internet, Sprynet,
EarthLink, USAOnline, NetZero, CableAmerica, Cox
Communications, require you to send all outgoing messages
through their mail servers. They will not allow you to send
through 3rd party SMTP servers. These ISP's are doing this to
prevent unwanted spam and catch those sending spam/junk
e-mails.
You will still be able to use your normal
e-mail address however you will need to change the outgoing
server in Outlook Express to the SMTP server your ISP
recommends, please check your ISP's web site for mail server
information.
Alternatively, you can use port 26 to send e-mail with. Simply change the settings in your e-mail
software to use port 26 rather than port 25. |
